The middle ground being informed is where the conversation needs to head. I’m concerned about liberalism as a cover for removing choices and banning things. It doesn’t feel like liberalism to me, it feels like covert fascism.

And yes. I think Trump was closer than most people think to gaining power but lacked the political capital he thought he’d secured. I suspect if Pence had bought it and McConnell had gone along with it — and both had said so at the right time, that could’ve got very nasty very quickly. That’s a counter-factual though, the checks and balances worked and the Government was not subverted.

I would urge you to read about Napoleon III though, the man was on the fringes of French society for ages and found a way to seize power through multiple failed coup attempts and then tinkering with the apparatus of power. He’s the blueprint on which all future dictators did their best work. :o)
