The more I read about processed foods the less impressed I am with the 1980s. I have a fairly unprocessed diet here in the UK, but when I came to the US for a visit (10 days) I managed to get stomach ache, mouth ulcers and feel unwell most of the time. I wasn't eating healthily but there wasn't much healthy food on option for a bird without a stove. Your Mum sounds ace, have you taken her to see Oppenheimer? She's probably in it somewhere. :o)
