The numbers don't lie and it's fair to assume that of the 6% of writers who make over $100 per month, most of them didn't mean to do so. I don't mean they were arrogant, I mean that money wasn't their principle motivation and came after the fact.

Medium should be seen as coffee money right up until it isn't, because that's when you know you've got better at writing. If you go in with the attitude that writing is going to cover the cost of being inspired to write (a coffee/netflix subscription/audible subscription/new book every week or so) then you'll have the longevity to be in the 6%.

Set your sights too high and you won't survive the rollercoaster of despair that comes with every piece you publish.

I joined in 2018, back then it was considered 'too late' to be successful. One of the authors that joined around the same time as me. Shannon Ashley. I think there are some advantages to being an early adopter - but I'm not convinced it's the be all and end all. Talent will out and falling in love with words and stories is your best bet.
