The problem is, everyone thinks they're Magneto and everyone thinks everyone else are the problem. That's identity politics in a nutshell. So whilst everyone is running around being Magneto on their own private crusade against everyone else, the rest of us have to try and inject reason and common sense into the thing. Whilst you're busy being a race-Magneto, the LGBTQ-Magnetos have you tipped as the villain, and whilst they're busy fighting you, the very very religious right (still a minority group) have both of you tipped as villains for your liberal stance on not bowing to the supreme will of Jesus

So, if society lets you be Magneto about your issue, it has to let everyone be Magneto about their issue too.... and that, in a nutshell, is how you turn public discourse into an X-men villain based clusterfuck of opinion, heavy handed rhetoric and nobody gets to move anywhere because everything is an explosion. It's not that you're wrong, it's not even that you're not justified in your beliefs (Magneto was) it's just there's a reason why Xavier was more successful than Magneto in the long run that has everything to with objectivity and nothing to do with putting on a large solipsistic helmet to drown out the voices of everyone else. :o)
