The problem isn’t necessarily with you - but with this concept as a whole. The idea that things can be asserted as a way of rebalancing powers between individuals relies heavily on you being a reliable narrator for your own life. You may be, but you also may not be - and most people aren’t. When you assert someone has done X, and X is a crime for which there must be restitution, then I think the matter should be dealt with in the courts or by the police. I think we are in a slippery slope towards chaos if not.

People are entitled to write whatever they like, but we must be careful not to allow citizen journalism to become an exercise in accusation and confirmation bias. Life is complicated, people are complicated, and so I always talk in anonymities when writing from life, sure….there’s a remote chance people might work out who I am and then work out who they are from reading my work - but that’s very unlikely.

When someone has wronged me - or I have wronged them (and this happened fairly recently) then I write to them directly and offer a chance for discussion. This seems healthiest for me and for them. Only one person has taken me up on it, we had a three hour chat and have never spoken again since. The air was cleared, the relationship deceased.
