The problem with that position is that in the Clinton/Lewinsky set up, the power differential is clear and obvious. In many other cases it is not, and leads to a situation where individuals do not take responsibility for their own actions. Take, as an example, the millionaire 60 something female divorcee who goes on holiday and falls for the beautiful but poor Hispanic waiter. Who has the power? She has the wealth, he might be manipulating her… but equally, she might be well aware of what she’s doing and be prepared. He may also genuinely like older women and not be interested in inheriting a large house.
Who has the power? Who is responsible?
Faced with this problem, I think the only valid solution is to put morality on the shelf and simply require the individuals to be adults and to consent. We have to trust people to make the choices they make and to think through the implications of their actions. They may get it wrong. But they will likely learn from that (as painful as that might be)
