The TV world is full of idiots chasing the next big thing with increasing desperation. That's how it works. Unfortunately, when you stumble across a genre that really works (as LOTR films did) you then get a slew of copycat nonsense until you find a formula that works again. Namely GOT. Now we've got the same problem again, TV production companies applying the GOT formula across material that doesn't work in the same way - they don't want to invent anything new and so you end up with numerous ersatz copies.... that's fine when we're talking about action films or 'sleuth TV' in the 1980s, but when we're talking High Fantasy, it's an absolute mission. People LOVE this stuff and fucking it up is inevitable when what is really happening is people attempting to cash in on a trend.
