The U.K. is much closer to America in its approach to charity. You did what I would’ve done here and I would also have been reprimanded by the old man.

It’s a double edged sword tho, I cook at a charity soup kitchen for homeless people who get a hot meal and some weekly shopping provided for them by volunteers - but the Government will happily let the charity sector fill that gap and do nothing.

I think there is a middle ground of kindness….. but I’m not sure where the cultural boundaries might be. It’s an interesting issue to think about - and we Brits have our own cultural foibles too. :o)
