I worked in child protection for a decade and I'm aware there are cultural problems. I'm also aware this issue (but not the solutions already discussed at the political level) are being carefully cherry picked by the political right to garner support for their voting base. This is problematic because things like 'estimates' can be parroted until they feel true and stories can be pushed and pulled and distorted. In many instances they simply aren't true. A cursory reading of the report should be required for everyone.
That isn't to say there aren't some cultural problems in the North of England, nor that there isn't a cultural issue specific to some communities. I am in no way afraid of being called a racist for saying this - but what cannot be allowed is the tarnishing of entire communities and groups of people on the basis of the behaviour of a few from within that community.
