There is no mob hanging around as a single unit - it is a collection of individuals who get behind a common cause. I'm sure many of them are bots, but that's not the point. I highly recommend the book 'So You've Been Publicly Shamed' by John Ronson, which goes into the Twitter shaming thing in a fair amount of detail. Well worth reading.

Trump is still President, unfortunately.... but he is the ultimate afficiando of 'cancel culture' - anything he doesn't want to talk about or think about, he simply decries as fake news and panders to his echo chamber. This isn't something that is inherently left or right - 'cancel culture' is an anti-intellectual movement from both sides of the political spectrum which polarises society into 'us vs them' thinking.
