There should be angst about white kids with good connections getting into places. This is nepotism and it is equally abhorrent. The only system which should determine who gets a place in higher education is one which measures the ability of the people applying. That's it. That system should be colour blind, age blind, as blind as possible. That is how you get rid of the need for Affirmative Action. You offer places on merit and you offer them blind. No educational institution should have ANY idea what kids they're getting through the door until the first day. If all they get is Asian kids, then fuck.... everyone is playing catch the Asian kids. I don't think they will be - I think if you create a fair system, you'll get a smorgasbord of races - because intelligence is NOT related to melanin level.

What you need to do is level the playing field by making exams more general and education fairer - not keeping the exams the same and then cheating the system through quotas or nepotism. If there are different GPAs in different parts of the country then this should be addressed via financial redistribution. Pay better teachers, get better schools, plug the damn gaps.

And that applies to the arts world as well. I don't care there are 5 plays by trans-writers doing the rounds. What I care about is the fact that 4 of them are probably crap. Some people can writer, some people can't..... you shouldn't be able to use any facet of your identity to further career progress. That applies across the board, white folks, black folks, trans folks, whoever. Level the playing field, do not play fuckabout trying to tilt it in new directions.
