There's a whole wave of anti-semitism going back through American history but Ford is up there, Coco Chanel too, and pretty much the entire British Royal Family. For the record, I'm not really pro people collecting Nazi memorabilia, what I'm suggesting here is that people should have the freedom to collect whatever they please - because an interest in something does not necessarily align with the politics of said thing. Acquiring something legally and owning it is an integral part of liberalism. If you want to stop people collecting Nazi memorabilia then put a tax on it - or have a vote to make it illegal (which I would oppose because there's no obvious harm, even if eyebrows are raised).
Would I want to be his friend? Probably not. Would I want to live in a world where others can look at what you choose to do in the privacy of your own home and assign a moral value onto it? Not really. That sort of thinking is how you lead to totalitarianism by the back door. Thomas is a complicated man, somewhat obsessed with pornography, dubiously 'bootstraps' in his approach and with an unhealthy concordance with the worst parts of the religious right.
That said, his friends can collect whatever they like in a truly liberal society. :o)
