There’s some binary thinking at play here that needs some undoing. Einstein was fairly horrible to his wife, he wrote some fairly unpleasant things about Asian people whilst on his travels. In the current climate this can be cited as enough to cancel him entirely…. But like most people on the planet, he is comprised of both good traits and bad. He’s complex, neither truly virtuous or truly villainous – when we encourage people to see others as one thing or the other we play into this idea of good and evil as a binary. This aligns with our views and everything else can be thrown out. Einstein was Einstein, an individual blend of biases and contradictory messy thoughts. He isn’t good. He isn’t bad. He just is – and like the rest of us, he needs to be condemned and forgiven in equal measure. :o)
