There's this strange idea that books wield this magical power that defies rationalism - they don't. I read Tolkien and I mostly became bored, such lengthy prose. All sandwiches and plants and not enough storming the castles for my liking. I've managed to read a lot of Anne Rice and only bite people occasionally. :o)
