This, along with the thousands and thousands of other examples of mob mentality and gross stupidity are why I deleted Twitter in 2018. It will come to be viewed the way we view photographs of children smoking cigarettes in the 1930s. We look at that and it seems odd, why would you risk the physical health of your child? Why didn’t you realise it was addictive? Why didn’t you realise what a pervasive negative effects it was having on society at the time.
Future generations may understand the mass appeal of social media, but they will wonder why on earth everyone was to stupid to pander to its addictive nature when the evidence of it’s negative effects were so easily spotted and that logging out and not returning is a simple choice.
Human psychology isn’t smart enough or mature enough for something as complex as social media. This sort of thing will continue to happen and lives will continue to be ruined ad-infinitum. The simple truth is you either endorse Twitter with your presence and you’re part of the problem, or you don’t and you’re not. Can’t be much clearer than that. :o)
