This is a difficult question - and one that I don't have the answer to. There are interesting questions to be posed - if foetus viability can be ensured outside of the womb at the point of conception by a self administered device - should abortion be illegal? The constitution doesn't have the answer - but I think technology is going to get there anyway. In that instance, who do these foeti belong to? Who are they the children of? They have biological parents presumably with 50% rights to all decision making? Would the state be expected to have 'wards'. Would red states take ownership from blue states as they push for full life chances for unwanted foeti.

These questions are (and aren't) above my paygrade, because I'm a dystopian writer. These are issues that need to be addressed, because the technology is outstripping the law - and there is no good faith left in this agreement. Part of me wished Medium allowed writers to co-write pieces, so I could act as a mediator between a pro-lifer and a pro-choicer in an essay that would be more about bridging gaps in misunderstanding. A glance down the comments shows that both groups read me, they just don't read each other. :o/
