This is a great article - and I hope it generates very thoughtful discussion from all quarters - because you've raised some difficult points and done it very well. What I will say is that this matter is more complicated than most people realise (legally speaking) and society has to get better at thinking about this and finding a way forward that is both fair and simple for everyone to understand.
In the spirit of that approach, I'd like to offer this story from my back catalogue as further discussion about how the law, people and alcohol can create complex situations. It involves a rape, a trial, and an overturning of the conviction because of the complexity of the mixed messages involved - it may be triggering for some.
