This is a great article and very enjoyable - but isn’t there an underlying assumption on the perpetuity of the racial hierarchy? Let us throw ourselves into a subjunctive future in which China become the dominant economic and social force, does the racial hierarchy still stand as it currently is? If not, how will we know? At what point might the balance tip in favour of Asian? And at that point - will ‘racism’ encompass non-whites?

I suppose my issue with your argument is that it produces a fait accompli that white folks are going to rail against and a handy stick for minority groups to hit each other with. I don’t think either of things are likely to reduce racism.

I write regularly against the proliferation of identity politics, and am usually accused of being a racist (mostly by white folks I hasten to add) - but I think there some consensus to be made between our positions. I think your analysis is bang on, I think the politics that currently stem from your conclusion, when in the wrong hands, will do more harm than good to people of all skin colours and mostly poor people - who will get swept up in a right wing backlash and vote against their own economic and social interests.

Great article. :o)
