This is a great article and wonderfully written. I’m fairly outspoken about the problems with pushing an identity politics agenda for this reason. It can be twisted and turned to suit the subjective whims of whoever can be deemed oppressive. You’ve done a convincing job here of refuting the voices of the black women who drew a false equivalency and your argument is sound.

I would argue the problem arises when the same argument could not be made by a white person. That means the focus of such things has slipped away from concentrating on what people say and instead focuses solely on who they are to say it.

Whilst identity politics feels like a left wing inclusive movement, it can very quickly be turned into a right wing centralisation of power around particular voices, whether those people are making valid points or not.

This article is valid and your points are sound. I hope it gets curated and widely distributed. I would also hope if the same argument were made by a white guy from Texas that liberals wouldn’t go off like a bomb. It’s the quality of the discourse, not the qualities of the person speaking that will forward society.

And I like the qualities of your writing. Take my claps!
