This is a really good argument and not at all what I was expecting to read. There's an interesting centre ground and nuanced positon to take in the gender war - which is ultimately that some humans are capable of very bad and hurtful behaviour and that there are many complex and multi-faceted reasons why they might do so.

The oversimplification of identity politics has made this sitatuon worse. Feminists have positioned themselves as the voice of women, men's right's activitists have positioned themselves as the voice of the downtrodden man. In reality, nobody can talk on behalf of a group of people with any real authority. The more they attempt to do so, the less sense they make and the smaller the group they talk for.

That's why feminism is factioning down into smaller and smaller conflicting groups all weaponsiing their offence against each other - and why all the movements in identity politics are in a circular firing squad. White women don't talk for black women, black women don't talk for indian-trans-women and so on and so on. Eventually the entire discussion becomes meaningless.

The only way to make any real progress is to talk to individuals outside of the echo chamber. And in order to do that, one must shed the group identities that have been worn as a suit of armour to go into battle with, regardless of how safe they feel.

That's why I'm a penguin.
