This is an interesting article – because it runs counter to my most recent article called ‘what we all lose when society plays identity politics’. You’re drawing attention to the multi-faceted and complicated nature of privilege. Skin colour is one aspect of it, but so is economic well-being.
Whilst you’ve concluded that you have better life experiences than poor BIPOC, do you have more or less privilege than middle class BIPOC? Or do you differentiate that privilege?
I’m interested to know whether you think identity politics and socialism can play nicely together (I’m not convinced they can) or what you make of the divide between the two.
