This is what I think is at the root cause of Trump. This argument doesn't work. In fact it's worse than that, it's counter productive. It's a theme that runs through much of your work - people who disagree with the way you vote or perceive an issue must, at the very core of their being, be stupid voters.

But you regularly tie yourself into knots - as you did with Kemi Badenoch. You push for more Black people in positions of power, but when they turn out to be the wrong sort of Black people, you're angry - they must be stupid. When Black voters and women voters shied away from a Democratic message built for years around nebulous themes like justice, fairness and equity in various facets of the middle class - you call them stupid.

When presented with concrete evidence (in the form of the popular vote) that the Left made a mistake. The they shouldn't be moving from an economic model of wealth distribution into top-down social interference in the name of 'progress' (but only the sort of progress we want according to this week's idea of justice) has failed, it must be because 71 million people are stupid. All the Black men, Hispanic men, white women and other groups who aren't voting your way are corrupted by either the patriarchy or white supremacy, despite neither of these things being particularly defined - or (more crucially) mattering in the lives of poor people all the much by the look of it.

My wider thoughts are here, feel free to rip them apart. We lefty Brits must stick together in our commitment to the Democratic notion of disagreement in public, or Labour will fall to Reform in 2028. You heard it here first.

If the left wants to get back into the race, it needs to stop with identity nonsense and move back to bringing people out of poverty. I said that in 2020 when I became a Penguin and nobody listened then.

That's probably because everyone is stupid. ;o)
