To each their own indeed - and it's our biggest difference as creators on the platform how we use the block and hide button. You've laid out your stall clearly but I'm going to hide your comment anyway.... just kidding!
I think perhaps the issue here comes with the word 'troll' - the gradual erosion of common sense means that some people view any challenge to their world view as trolling, dissent is evidence of oppression. That's not what you do - we've had some excellent disagreements in the past, but that doesn't mean there isn't a propensity for it - and if it's the standard by which new and younger writers operate, then we're in for a fair few decades of echo chambers.
I've replied to SC about her theatre metaphor, so I won't reiterate many of the points I've made. I think it's a good metaphor, but I see Medium much more like a stand up set than a play. If someone decides to heckle they better be bloody good at holding their own or they'll get trounced. Whilst it might be wasting time as you've suggested, I think it's great practice for the snarktillery and gives me great joy - with your language skills, I think you're missing a trick here! There could be so much hilarity in your comments section. :o)
