To presume that I don't want people to know I'm a man contains the underlying assumption that I'm a man with something to hide. I don't want people to speculate on my sex, race or gender at all - and just accept prima facie that a giant penguin sits in an igloo banging out articles.

I know that isn't true, but a Penguin can dream.

Also, thanks for your advice on writing away from the platform. It does sound like a lot more work than I'm willing to do with the opinion/journalism side of my writing. I spend a lot of my working week writing and pitching TV shows and plays to theatres -probably similar to what you're doing but in my own little corner of the writing world. I think having my own site would detract from that - it was always worth asking though. :o)
