We aren't telling anyone how to feel - and this writer is no longer six years old. Contextualisation matters and the Finkelhor model will provide you with wider context. I work with a lot of predators, I work with a lot of complicated antecedents.

By way of explanation, I am currently working with a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl - a family friend. By way of context he was also abducted from his house at the age of six and raised by an 'uncle' in the Taliban who treated him pretty badly and created some very complicated psychological preconditions around shame and sexualised behaviour.

Does that excuse what he did? of course not. Am I glad he's currently not out in the community - I sure am. Does this contextualisation of his behaviour add nuance.... you bet your ass. What you're describing as 'theory' is really just adding understanding the fact human beings are really really really complicated as individuals and even more so when they interact.

We do not cover for perps - but I would argue we do not need to hate them. Many have already had too much hate already.
