We can indeed go back and forth on this issue, debating the nature of whether or not Hamas (acting on behalf of the Palestinian people) or the PLO left peace on the table numerous times, perhaps most recently at the Oslo Accords, or by failing to have any election subsequent to the last lot in the early 2000s.

These debates are happening all over the internet and the point is really this - you won't change your mind and people on the opposing side won't change theirs either - because each team is simply receiving information that has already been pre-approved by their peers. There is an echo chamber mentality brewing in liberal democracies and this is (in part) being fuelled by other agencies.

Whether or not you consider Hamas to be terrorists or freedom fighters depends on your view of the situation. Whether or not their tactic of sacrificing large swathes of their civilian population to win a propaganda war pays off is yet to be seen. I think it will - and that means the world just got a lot more dangerous, because it is a method that will work for any small paramilitary group who can hijack the oppressed/oppressor narrative.

The crime of Hamas is not its existence, the crimes were the raping, burning and deliberate execution of civilians in Israel. I have no issue with Hamas existing, but their 1988 charter makes it very clear what they intend to do with the Jewish people and (very likely) other people who don't fit their view of the world
