We do have to have a definition of adult within the law.... it's currently at 18 here. I think that's reasonable and I'd argue to keep it, but as i've said before in other articles, I'd raise the age of consent for everything there too (it's 16 here in the UK). Children can also have whatever sexual proclivities they want as long as they're healthily expressed.

Sexual proclivities within the law is a complicated one - and I need to delve into this one a little more, because the 'law' in and of itself isn't much good as a reference point. However, there's a sort of natural law which most people would agree with. Don't have sex with people you're related to, children or animals being the most obvious examples - with the disagreement 'what constitutes a child' differing between cultures causing chaos for those of us working in child protection. However, there are numerous cases of siblings finding each other after being parted by circumstance and falling in love without knowing, that's always a bit heartbreaking for everyone concerned.

I think what I meant here was 'as long as they're within the general laws surrounding consent' etc, but I haven't expressed that very well. My position is one of libertarianism, do what you want as long as everyone is in agreement and everyone is an adult fully capable of understanding and rationalising what's happening.

Yes, Alan Turing's treatment and suicide is a blight on British history along with much of the post-Victorian homophobic-bullshit pervading much of the 20th Century. It took my country far too long to move past what was a deeply disturbing approach to human relationships.

As an aside, I'm not sure why you believe I'm straight and have mainstream sexual desires (whatever that may be) - I've never indicated any such thing in my writing. I endeavour to keep myself and the Significant Other Penguin sexuality free and genderless. :o)
