Well…. This is adorable. I studied how babies develop at University and it sounds like you’ve got a few years of fun left with Luke. It’s very different to study it than to live through it - and you’ve written a very beautiful piece. There’s still plenty of fun left to have tho.
Up until about 6 or 7, children find it difficult to differentiate between what is real and what is fantasy and they struggle in rational thought, it’s an ideal time to fill his world with magic. Jolly men coming down the chimney at Christmas can be enhanced with glitter and bitten carrots. Everything can be given a healthy dose of awesome. I often magically change traffic lights when children are watching (they lack the pattern recognition).
Give him books, give him love, give him a magical childhood and he will be your best friend forever… just be gone when he goes through the smelly hormone stage. Or if not done, then at least somewhat distant.
Cute story, welcome to Medium :o)
