What an awesome article — very well written, informative, neutral and like a little bubble of calmness in the turbulent seas of social unrest.

I’m white, Cishet, and quite frankly bored of it all. This is a somewhat privileged position to take and I’m very aware of that fact. Like many people I’ve simply lost the capacity to care about any of it — the progressive social justice warriors are forming into a circular firing squad and I’m just waiting for them all to cancel each other.

In the meantime I will engage with individuals from every community and be human centred, I will do this regardless of their genitals or pronouns. There are conflicts and complexities that come with existence and people are rarely simple. I would say that people are more interesting than movements.

I’ll also maintain the concept of nuance, where conflicts occur between people’s opposing rights — there is always room for nuanced thinking. This seems to have been forgotten in the never ending echo chamber and vitriolic rage machine that is social media.

And JK Rowling may be cancelled — and I don’t see that as a bad thing. She positioned herself at the forefront of progressivism by retrospectively imbuing her books with insights that she didn’t have. It made her the Robespierre of the progressive movement and she clearly hasn’t read enough French history.

I hope you aren’t cancelled for writing this article. Who knows. Maybe you will be. But if you aren’t — it should be given to everyone to read as a very balanced and centre ground summing up of the complex arguments around sex, gender, transphobia and human rights. :o)
