What Do We Do With 72,000,000 Racist Bigots?

A practical solution to the problem facing the USA

The simple answer? Nothing. The more complex answer? Introspect. There has been a great deal of triumphalism hitting the Medium airwaves since Donald Trump was defeated in the November election. Initial feelings of relief have morphed into something I’d argue is far less helpful. Something that won’t solve any of the complex problems America finds itself in.

It may be that you think 72,000,000 US citizens are racist bigots. It may be that you opened this article hoping that I’d suggest they all move to Alaska and let the progressive and wonderful Democrats take over the country.

Here’s why I won’t say that and why you should stop and think.

The Question of BEING Republican

People AREN’T Republicans or Democrats. They VOTE Republican or Democrat. Swapping a state of action for a state of being allows you to generate an ‘Us vs Them’ mentality. Thus you can ascribe the worst excesses of some Republican behaviours to all Republican voters.

Don’t feel too bad, they do the same to you.

Why would anyone with any concerns about security ever vote in a party that would defund the police across all the states? Why would…
