What is missing predominantly from both the left and the right is the ability to question and debate with any semblance of intelligence. The right and the left are equally to blame, and those people who have jumped on their respective ideological bandwagons have failed to ask the correct questions about where exactly they were travelling.
The control of language remains the central goal of both ideologies. Demagoguery and political upheaval for the alt-right, and heavy social contract policing and online social justice for the nouveau-left.
The question that needs addressing is what can the moderate centre ground do to redress the balance? At the moment, not much. Even on this social platform there is a tendency to skew heavily left. I would argue that many of your articles prior to this one have done so — the question remains, what next? What is the exit strategy for moderates? I’m afraid I don’t have the answer — all that I can encourage others to do is ask more questions and consider the complexity of the arguments being presented.
In the spirit of continuing the discussion you have started. Here is the most successful article I’ve ever written for Medium.
A direct plea from the centre ground.
