When I started work in Child Protection, I also went over my childhood and unpicked some of the things I missed. It's both interesting and sad to do so - this girl may have been abused, but also, she may have just had older siblings, gone into puberty early and been exposed to more adult things than you. It's difficult to know - social work and child protection is putting together bits of a puzzle in the dark whilst trying to hold a conversation and hum a tune. Everything is much easier in retrospect or when you get a sneak peek at the total picture you're trying to put together.
