When people read my work and give me feedback, I have an internal graph which plots how much they know about the subject matter and how strongly they feel about it and me as a person. That allows me to get to the heart of issues with my work a lot more quickly. If someone who knows a lot about the subject matter/writing in general absolutely detests it, that carries significantly more weight than my mum loving it. Likewise, if a bunch of non-romance readers hate the romance, you can safely ignore it…. If the lady in question suggests you have too many themes, that might be a note worth listening to, because that might come from a place of knowledge about writing. Forget the other notes and see if that has any objective validity. Perhaps give it to a romance reader and see if they concur.
