Write as a generalist and develop your individual voice. Certain writers on this platform have writing styles that transcend the subject matter they write about - people read them for the joy of reading them. I think that's where newbie writers should aspire to get to - and it doesn't pay to close down your options until you've sorted out your voice. Consider it the same as education - we only do degrees in specific subjects only after we've become competent in many different subjects. Generalise for the first year and a half at least. :o)
