Yeah, I agree. The words themselves have become polarised - and the original article makes that point very well. The lady who wants to be referred to as 'victim' rather than 'survivor' is an interesting case in point.
I don't think it's necessarily the right hijacking the words. I think it's a symbiotic relationship in the political discourse that happens between the right and the left. The left tends to overuse the word 'trauma' outside of its correct psychological usage and believes odd things like 'words are violence'. This becomes established as fact by the left and is then mocked by the right until it essentially meaningless.
The same happens the other way too - the right talk 'patriotism' and then extrapolate the word out to mean whatever they want it to mean - the left respond with mockery until the word becomes a slur.
Words are fun like that. The merry-go-round continues :o)
