Yes I do. I don’t like it — but I think that’s what they should be able to do. I outlined this in the article. In a liberal society you should be allowed to dissent and unless you want the state to be able to infringe upon parents rights, then you have to allow them to take their children out of school. The state can control what it puts into the educational system, but it cannot and should not infringe upon the rights of citizens to opt out. That said, I think there need to be robust child protection laws to ensure that children are safe when home schooled.

As I have insisted from the get-go, this is a complicated social matter which doesn’t benefit from letting knee-jerk reactivists of either flavour in the room. I have as many concerns about letting JF into the room as I have about letting a chrisitan preacher into the room — neither are able to moderate towards a centre ground and both likely believe they have the exclusive understanding of moral rightness.
