You are a writer whose work I love to read but who I sometimes disagree with. I was a few months behind you joining Medium and am in no way as prolific or financially successful as you. We joined for different reasons I suspect.
One of the reasons I joined was to read new people and challenging my world view. I love a good debate and where I think an author is wrong, I’ll challenge them on it. Sometimes they reply. Sometimes they don’t. Either way… I think it brings balance and nuance to the discussion.
So whilst you’re excited about the direction that Medium has taken and you see opportunities. I disagree. I think the latest direction Medium has decided to head in was a massive miscalculation and one that will cost them in the long run.
In the spirit of respectful disagreement here’s an article I wrote yesterday. It’s about Medium getting back to it’s roots. How it should be finding authors like yourself and not becoming an additional income stream for professional journalists. I hope you enjoy it. And I hope you disagree with it entirely :o)
