You make a good argument and it has some merit, but you’re asking people to take a semantic leap that prima facie isn’t obvious. Reverse the question. Is it okay to be Black? Now ask 1000 white folks. If they say ‘no’ decide whether society would view this as a supremacy issue - or whether society would give them the benefit of the doubt to explain that Black is a social construct imbued upon them.
If society wouldn’t give them this opportunity or afford them an erudite explainer, then why not? The point here isn’t that you’re wrong about the question, you’re not - the problematic thing here is a) why such a loaded question was asked and b) why such a visceral reaction, albeit extreme is unexpected and career ending. Its exactly the reaction id expect a white guy to have when faced with that poll but not given the semantic escape pod you’ve used.
