You wouldn't say that simply labelling Tate as a neo-fascist without exploring where that very popular message is... I dunno, arrogant as hell. I don't like Tate's message, but I can at least see there's a systemic problem here, one in which the failure to communicate views effectively is contributing to a declining ability of the sexes to relate to each other.

And Reuben did reply and he did defend Katie Jgln's views and quite rightly so. And Mark Larsen then went onto clarify exactly what I'd failed to articulate.

-------

Interesting discussion if it’s fair to compare Jgln here.

It’s an asymmetrical comparison, but gender has some asymmetrical problems.

Men writing into bro chambers generally have to own being assholes.

Women writing into feminist echo chambers can sell themselves as heroes. Dismantling patriarchy, inspiring women and protecting feminism from unwarranted criticism.

The worst part is Jgln is a bright, talented writer, surrounded by awful incentives.

Her mix of feminism and faux feminist is hard to argue with. But any space that systematically shuts down polite disagreement is destined to become more biased and less feminism.

-------

I have no problems with people defending any writer or even writers defending their own writing. I'd prefer it if they did that rather than retreating into an echo chamber of agreement. If you can come out and defend your position (as I am doing right now) then you shouldn't be writing opinion pieces.

For the record, I have no problem with feminists - because those people are committed to making the world better for women and men on an equal and fair footing. I do have a problem with sliding misandry in and pretending it's feminism, something many writers on this platform do.

And no, it's not Jgln's fault that Tate exists - as I said in the article, they are both symptoms of the same problem. A problem exacerbated by an insistence that any push back on anything is symptomatic of being 'trolled'.

You're trolling me now. I should block you. I should complain to Medium that you called me a troll and hurt my feelings. Except I refuse to block people unless they're absolutely insane, I don't need a corporation to defend me - and my feelings aren't hurt by name calling.
