You're going to get a lot of blowback from the internet for this one - but I agree with you. Whilst I'm a little sceptical of the pseudo-Christianity stuff, I find him to be a compelling and intriguing lectuerer who is almost always on firmer ideological grounds than the people who oppose him.

When he is opposed, he generally responds with good grace and with reasoned debate. He's become a poster boy for right-wing trolls under 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' principle - but when you actually listen to him and read his work, you'll find that he's in a very nuanced centre ground.

I read Tanners comments below - and as someone who was attacked this morning for condemning wokeism and who is routinely attacked for 'not going after the right' - I think it's because the left-ist voices are far more prevalent at the moment. Between 2019 and two weeks ago Medium became an identity politics newspaper in which no other schools of thought were permitted.

A great deal of the modern discourse is predicated on the fact that disagreement is itself a form of oppression - which it isn't. Critical thinking isn't being taught in quite the same way it once was and many people are losing the capacity to debate in good faith. The fact that Peterson disagrees, has no problem with disagreeing and is smart enough to make a compelling case rankles people who have based their ideological stance on the latest thing they saw on Twitter. They aren't prepared and have no answer.

Cue endless videos of people marching up to shout at Peterson and getting a calm and measured response in return. He's an unflinching voice for rational discussion and deeper thought and that's to be applauded. Even if you don't agree with him, you'd better have prepared something more than a whimsical set of flimsy beliefs you lazily scraped together. It will come as no surprise to anyone who follows my work that I like Peterson - and no surprise to anyone who knows me personally that I'm politically and theologically opposed to him.

I'm fine with that - and one day I hope I get to debate him from inside my penguin suit. We'd have fun he and I. Great article and good to see your name popping up on my feed! :o)
